Women’s Day

Story by:Thando Thabethe website

“The Thando Thabethe Women's Day Netball challenge, founded by media personality, Thando Thabethe in 2014 is an annual fundraising event aimed at raising awareness against women abuse, creating conversation around gender equality and women empowerment.Over the past 4 years, the event has raised over R300 000 towards NGOs and Charities that work towards the empowerment of women.”

We as Brand Arc saw it fitting to support our fellow industry colleague, by participating in this initiative because women abuse is a subject we are passionate about and the act, is something we are strongly against. Also fresh in our minds and hearts was young Khensani Maseko, who committed suicide after she was raped. Khensani is but one of many voiceless women who suffer at the hands of abuse daily in SA and around the world.

To create awareness and stand up against such, Team Brand Arc, along with celebrity friends and influencers Salamina Mosese, Stephina Zwane and Hulisani Ravele, took to the courts of Klipspruit Sports Centre on the bitter cold morning of Women’s Day. No weather formed against us was going to prosper in deterring us from the message we wanted to convey to the world. That nobody is entitled to use any women’s body for their satisfaction. This statement was made through T-shirts citing: My Body Is Not For Your Satisfaction.

We continue to drive that message on our different platforms and despite the 2 loses, 1 draw and only one win on the day, the ladies had a lot of fun and look forward to participating annually in the event. Congratulations to Thando and her team on the initiative!
